I consider myself a surrealist working both two and three-dimensional formats which allows me to express my artistic observations of life’s fantasies and its realities. Trompe l’oeil effects are often employed in the sculpting of the form to interact with the imagery unfolding on the surface.
I am fascinated with getting a surrealistic graphic narrative to transcend the usual plane and interact with the physical form. Creating a inter-dimensional canvas, for me this is taking the medium to its fullest potential.
We live in a world with incredible cultural diversity and I find myself so intrigued by these differences that I set out to experience them first hand. Many of these tribal cultures strike me as quite surreal when held in contrast to the world from which I grew up.
In the past seven years I have focused on the tribal cultures of the south pacific islands, south East Asia, and the historical empires of the middle-east. I create a form inspired by traditions, beliefs, or the environment on which I further express my observations using a pictorial narrative.
Similarly to many of the world’s ancient civilizations whose ceramics preserved a narrative of their culture. So it is with a surrealists eye that a culmination of tribal identity is captured and respectfully a story is told from an inquisitive outsiders perspective.
